City releases Draft Official Community Plan

4 September 2025

The Draft Official Community Plan (OCP) is now available for public review and comment. This marks a key milestone in the City’s planning process, following a year of community engagement that included surveys, events, and conversations with residents, businesses, First Nations, and other interested parties.

The OCP outlines Fort St. John’s long-term vision, goals, and policies to guide growth and development over the next twenty years. It is informed by the recently completed Housing Needs Report and extensive public input gathered through two surveys and ten community events, beginning with the kickoff at the Moose FM Block Party in September 2024.

Mayor Lilia Hansen emphasized the importance of community involvement in the planning process, “This plan reflects the voices of Fort St. John residents who care deeply about the future of our city. I encourage everyone to look at the draft and share their thoughts. Together, we’re building a vibrant, inclusive community that is ready for the future.”

Public engagement will continue throughout September at upcoming events, including:

  • Moose FM Block Party – Saturday, September 6, 2025 (11 am – 3 pm)
  • Fort St. John Farmers’ Market – Saturday, September 13 & 20, 2025 (9 am – 12 pm)

Feedback collected during this phase will help refine the draft before it is presented to Council in late October 2025.

Residents are invited to review the draft plan and provide comments online at letstalk.fortstjohn.ca/official-community-plan.
